7th Grade Field Trip to Tallahassee, Florida’s Capital
Who?: Any eligible* 7th grader at LAJH
What?: Our civics’ curriculum will come to life as students visit the state capitol buildings in Tallahassee. While there, we will also travel back in time at Mission San Luis, a mission settlement established in Spanish Florida between the 1560’s and 1690’s. Finally, we will tour Doak Campbell stadium, where FSU plays football and dine in their student union.
When?: All of Mrs. Watt's students will travel on Wednesday, May 28, 2014, from 6:00 am to 9:30 pm
How Much?: $90 (for students and/or adult chaperones) Your investment is all-inclusive. It covers the cost of a deluxe motorcoach to and from Tallahassee, lunch and dinner, one professional tour guide per bus, and admission to Mission San Luis. The only other costs you would incur on this trip would be purely optional (i.e. souvenirs, snacks at rest stop).
What do I Need to Do? If you are interested in attending the 7th grade field trip to Tallahassee, you will need to complete the following:
*Bring in a completed health and consent forms and your first payment of $40 by January 17 to your Civics teacher
*Submit your second payment of $50 by April 16 to your Civics teacher
*Demonstrate positive behavior at LAJH (see behavior eligibility below below)
Projected Agenda: (Times are approximate, with exception of morning departure)
6:00 am sharp: Depart LAJH for Tallahassee; stop at rest area en route
9:30 am: Tour Mission San Luis, an old Spanish mission (www.missionsanluis.org)
11:30 am: Chick-fil-a box lunch
12:30 pm: Groups tour the following: A.) Historical Old Capitol Building to visit the traveling Smithsonian exhibit Choosing to Participate: The Power of Civic Engagement, B.) Senate and House chambers, C.) Governor’s Office D.) Florida Supreme Court and E.) the 22nd Floor Observation Deck of the Capitol
4:00: Tour FSU’s Doak Campbell stadium, visit the campus bookstore and have dinner in the student union
6:00 pm: Depart Tallahassee for LAJH; stop at rest area en route; Arrive back to LAJH at 9:30 pm

***Behavior Eligibility: Anyone who earns a Level 3 referral between January 8 and May 29 will not be allowed to attend. A Level 3 offense includes repeated misconduct act from Level 2, serious disruptions of school order, and threats to the health, safety and property of others.
*More specific details of the trip will be provided to the travelers as we near the trip date. If you have any questions, please contact your child’s Civics’ teacher. We look forward to a great trip!
